Community Development
Projects > Community Development
Our community development program comes with two different options to choose from. The first is:
English for Islanders or E for I Program
The main purpose of English for Islanders program is to teach a majority of Adults in island communities to speak and understand English by the end of this year. Our goal is to teach English for 100 adults by the end of 2010.
The seconds is:

The islands are looking for volunteers mainly from Europe, States, Australia, New Zealand etc.... They need volunteers from all backgrounds (colleges/Universities, student’s on breaks, retired elderly teachers, members of NGO's etc...) Willing to work in an island community and experience island life in the Maldives. It’s kind of a vacation cum community service trip, cultural experience and interacting with the locals here. So far, the program has been very successful and the community has welcomed and embraced these teachers
PRESENTLY
This March, the island has a volunteer from the States who holds a Masters in Policy making and Conflict Resolution, who is currently working as the Vice Chancellor at the American University in Iraq. He also has experience in teaching English in Damascus/ Syria. He is taking a class for 20 men and 20 women in the evening. Its one hour per class and the rest of the time is free for the volunteers to do as they please. He arranged to stay with the community for 30 days. His University also donated 40 Fundamental English textbooks that came with an interactive CD for the students. He is enjoying this experience so much that he wants to return on September this year again.
In May we have Heather a keen Gardener from the UK who will be working for two weeks on three different islands teaching very basic English as well as lending a hand on the island with the numerous agricultural projects taking place.
Volunteers are free to interact with the locals and check out the island, local food and the beaches during the day.
